Croisée des mots is going virtual

Thursday, April 9, 2020

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) and the Association des auteures et auteurs de l'Ontario français (AAAOF), in partnership with Library and Archives Canada (LAC) and La Nouvelle Scène, are pleased to announce that the Croisée des mots author event will now be available online. The event allows the Ottawa community to connect with each other and discover Franco-Ontarian literature. This series of events includes a reading, an interview and virtual discussions with the public. Two events are planned for the next two weeks. Attendance is free for all, but requires online registration.

On Tuesday April 14, author Danièle Vallée will be the guest of honour. Danièle Vallée is a well-known author and storyteller living in Ottawa. She has published nine books, six of which have been illustrated by renowned visual artists. She brings her texts to life by giving them an astonishing artistic dimension accentuated by varied music, performed by musician Jean Cloutier on saxophone and percussion. Over the past five years, she has created four shows that have been presented on several Canadian stages. Her most recent book Juré, craché! was published by Éditions David.

On Tuesday April 21, it will be poet Véronique Sylvain’s turn to be the guest of honour. Originally from Northern Ontario, Véronique Sylvain lives in Ottawa, where she completed a master's degree on the representation of the North in Franco-Ontarian poetry. Her poems have appeared in the magazines À ciel ouvert and Ancrages, as well as in the collective collection Poèmes de la résistance (Prise de parole, 2019). Véronique devotes herself to various artistic projects, including song writing, and oversees promotion and communications at Éditions David. Premier quart, published by Éditions Prise de parole, is her first collection of poetry.
