Celebrate Capital Pride 2020 with the Ottawa Public Library

In thisextraordinary andtumultuousyear, Ottawa Public Library is pleased to participate in 2020 Ottawa Capital Pridecelebrations. OPL invites you toconnect and celebrate virtually in the inclusive spirit of the organizers’ motto for this year: “Wherever we are”and OPL is proud to add these events to the agenda.

The Library invites everyone, and especially youth who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, to join a liveconversationwith debut transgender author Tobly McSmithmoderated by local consultant, educator and organizer Fae Johnstone.

The whole family can celebrate throughout the week with live virtual Rainbow Storytimesthat encourage diversity and promote acceptance.  Through books, stories, songs and rhymes about families, friendship, love and all the different and unique things that make us special.  What a great occasion to wear your favouriteoutfit!  

Check out OPL’s  YouTube channelfor some reading recommendations from members of Ottawa’s 2SLGBTQ+ community who sharetheir favourite titles and explain why and how these books made an important on them.In addition to thesepersonal and passionate picks, the Library’s YouTube channel will serve up some surprise videos later duringCapital Pride weekso please tune in.

Finally, do not worry about missing the parade– the proud festive fun is going virtual this year!  Capital Pride is assembling a video montage of floatsof all kinds and making sure the parade will go on with many new and returning participants, including, of course, your friendly neighbourhoodBookmobile and OPL employees from many of our branches! Don’t miss the Virtual Pride Parade on Sunday, August 30at 2pm.
