Time for some historical research!

May 01, 2020

Great news for local history buffs and genealogists! Ancestry and the Ottawa Citizen have online resources you can use right now – free and unlimited – with your OPL Library card.

The Ottawa Citizen digital heritage edition is now available to OPL cardholders, giving access to content from 1845 to 2010 to help the Ottawa community travel back in time and dive into  our local history. Read more about this archive in the following blog post.

Ancestry is also extending remote access to its database until the end of May. You can continue to work on your family tree from the comfort of your home, getting closer to your ancestors despite the physical distancing required in the here and now!

You can access billions of names in thousands of genealogical databases. And if that’s not enough, check out Ancestry’s new webinar series called Ancestry Extra. The webinars are taking place every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 am on their social media pages and are hosted by family history experts who share tips, tricks and insights to help support your family history discoveries.  In case you missed them, you can also re-watch the previous episodes.
