The Right to be Cold

Picture of Inuit author Sheila Watt-Cloutier

Mar 25, 2020

I recently read Sheila Watt-Cloutier's book, The right to be Cold: One Woman's Story of Protecting Her Culture, the Arctic and the Whole Planet, and I found it very informative, about how backwards the education system was for the Inuit back in the 8o's and 90's. Sheila played a very powerful role in establishing a better education system that is adapted to needs of the Inuit.

Sheila's story of trauma and struggles as an Inuk woman, are heartbreaking. Nevertheless, she persisted to make changes in the education system of the north. She has been a political representative for Inuit at the regional, national and international levels and is trying to make a difference in improving the lives of the young. Sheila is also a strong  advocate to help fight climate change in the North.

She has an informative TedTalk which you can find below. See the list below for more wonderful ebooks by Inuit authors.
