Any Known Blood Competition

I would highly recommend "The Parable of the Sower" by Octavia Butler. Butler was a prescient and gifted writer who died far too young. Her novel is a compelling vision of a dystopian future tempered by the possibility of redemption.

I would recommend the book

I would recommend the book 'The Hate u Give' by Angie Thomas. It gave me a new perspective on the experiences of minorities through exploring the themes of systemic racism, police brutality and the power of activism.

Book Recommendations by Black Authors

Reni Eddo-Lodge's "Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race" is a very in-depth, informative, and thought-provoking book that discusses much about the history of racism under an intersectional feminist lens. I would definitely recommend everyone read this book at least once!

"African Americans, as well as other people of color and low-income people, have benefitted greatly from cooperative ownership and democratic economic participation throughout (America's) history." Capitalism continues its death spiral stumbling from crisis to crisis: global pollution, climate sabotage, genocide, homelessness and starvation, what to do? We desperately need knowledge and practice of a new economics, a well-being economics. I am recommending to myself and others the book: Collective Courage: A History of African American Cooperative Economic Thought and Practice by Jessica Gordon Nembhard.

Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé is an excellent choice for readers who like suspense and thriller. It's as if the movie Get Out had a baby with How We Fall Apart by Katie Zhao.

Book giveaway: Any Known Blood - Book Recommendation

Nnedi Okorafor's "Who Fears Death" - this one blew me away with how it explored cultural practices and change through a non-aggressive, non-polar manner. It's been years since I read it but I still think on that story and am grateful for how it affected my perspectives and perceptions of different realities. Stellar writing, phenomenal story telling, and compelling strong characters. Read it! You won't be sorry ;D

Recommend a book by a Black author

For non-fiction, How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi, especially the audiobook read by the author. For fiction that really helps us see through other people's eyes, anything by Toni Morrison.

I am enjoying Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawab. She has given me language to empower myself and others. Thank you everybody for sharing these recommendations!

Book Giveaway

I recommend Chester Himes, particularly his Harlem Detective series, in which two Black detectives solve crimes in Harlem, not incidentally demonstrating along the way a Black view of racism in the 1950s - '60swhich is pretty harsh. He won France's Grand Prix de Littérature Policière, but never got enough recognition in the US.

Book recommendation

I would recommend “The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store” by James McBride

I would recommend the book "I cried to Dream Again" by Sara Kruzan. I couold not put it down.
