Nov 03, 2022

Two of the most prestigious literary prizes in the Francosphere, the Renaudot and Goncourt prizes, were awarded this week, as is customary in November.

The 2022 winner of the Goncourt is Brigitte Giraud for her book Vivre vite. How much money is awarded to the Goncourt winners? Ten euros! Obviously, the prestige that comes with the Prize is worth its weight in gold when you count the income from tens of thousands of virtually guaranteed sales in bookstores. Would you cash the 10-euro check or have it framed to admire it?

The winner of the 2022 Renaudot is Simon Liberati for his novel Performance. And how much does he earn? A big zero! No cash prize is offered by the contest organizers, but, as with the Goncourt, fame and sales are the real reward.
