“For Later Shelf” - your new favourite tool on OPL’s Website

Your hold list in the online catalogueis usually where you can seethe items coming up next for pick-upat your local branch. I love watching myholds list, especially when you see a titleyou’re anxious to receivesuddenly appear for you to take home. But things have changed, and right now, that hot,new read might only be available as an e-book, and you already have lots in your queue...What can you doto keep track of all those new titles? Answer - the “For Later” shelf!Think of it as a wish list of titles for later, and since it has no limits, you can add as many titles as you like: whether books, music CDs, DVDs or other items in our collection. 

You can add toyour“For Later” shelf two ways: 

  • Log in to your account. 

  • From any of an item’s details page, search results, awards and bestseller lists, or another patron’s shelves, click the “For Later” button next to the item. 

or 

  • Log in to your account. 

  • On the menu, click For LaterShelf". 

  • Click Add a title. 

  • Search for the title you want to add. 

  • Click the + Addlinkon the right-hand side. 

  • Search for additional items if required, and then close the popup window. 

If you want to cancel a hold and move it to your For Later shelf:

  • Log in to your account.

  • On the menu, click “Holds”.

  • Scroll to your holds that are “Not ready” or “Paused”.

  • On any item, click on the third button that says “For later” to save it for when you want to put it on hold again.

  • Then click on the “Cancel Hold” if you wish to cancel the request. Please note: if you cancel your hold, you will lose your position in line.  

The “For Later” shelf is also really great to use if you’re having trouble with getting through yourholds in a timely manner, orhaving too many items show up at once. This way, you have a record of that title and can go back when it works for you. Try it out today!
