Aging Well Together at the Library Now Online

Thursday, May 14, 2020

OTTAWA – Despite these uncertain times, Ottawa Public Library (OPL) continues to offer its educational series for adults 55 years of age and older, and their caregivers, to promote healthy aging. The initiative is called Aging Well Together at the Library and leverages the expertise and offerings of various community partners to provide a rich resource hub to enhance life after 55.

To that end, every Friday this month at 10 am, OPL will be hosting Online Seniors Fitness Classes. Fitness instructor Amanda Sterczyk will lead three 30-minute workouts that will include standing, seated and lying down exercises to help seniors keep fit at home.

On May 15 and June 5 at 12:30 pm, OPL is also partnering with the Home Hospice Association to offer a second and third Death Cafe online. Our objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives. During the current pandemic, a safe and non-judgemental space to talk about something that feels even closer to home is more important than ever before.

For something a little more fun and upbeat yet also good for you, OPL has invited local musicians Lee Hayes and Rob Cosh from 613 Casual Choir to lead a sing-along of well-known tunes on May 22 at 11 am. Rob and Lee have chosen songs that everyone will recognize so that everyone will be able to join in and sing-along with them.

To register for these events, members of the public can visit the OPL website or the Aging Well Together webpage where they can also access information on a variety of healthy living topics.
