There is still time to read The Break by Katherena Vermette!

One eRead book cover on tablet

Apr 26, 2022

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the live virtual One eRead events with author Katherena Vermette and CBC host Shelagh Rogers, in English, on April 20, and with Mélissa Verreault and Radio-Canada host Marie-Louise Arsenault on April 21. Insight was shared, delightful conversations took place, and the audience asked great questions. We truly enjoyed exploring the behind the scenes, themes and the different aspects of the book with you all. If you missed out on the events, no worries! The events are available for you to watch on Facebook, The Break is still available for download at participating libraries until April 30, and you’ll have access 3 week after this date. Also, daily discussion prompts will continue until the end of the month on Facebook and will be available on Ottawa Public Library’s YouTube channel in a few weeks.

If you’re already done reading the book, as a follow-up to her bestselling book The Break, Katherena also wrote The Strangers. Published in fall of 2021, Katherena’s latest novel brings readers into the dynamic world of the Stranger family, the strength of their bond, the shared pain in their past, and the light that beckons from the horizon. The author brings a profound human perspective to the heartbreaking reality of intergenerational trauma in Indigenous communities. If you’d like to read a book containing themes of race and class, then this book is our suggestion to you.
