Mercredi 26 octobre 2022

Karen M. McManus is renowned for her mystery novels about high schoolers. There is always a crazy plot twist and she never fails to write an entertaining book! She is from Massachusetts and has been releasing novels since 2017. Since then, she has had seven YA novels published, “One of us is Lying” was adapted into a series, and she became a #1 New York Times bestselling author.

Just in time for Halloween, here is a list of all Karen M. McManus’s books and what I think they merit out of 5 stars. Feel free to pick up the lower rated ones as well to find out for yourself! All of these books are standalones and can be read in any order, with the exception of One of Us Lying and One of Us is Next, which are a series. Comment your favourite Karen M. McManus book!

  • Nothing More to Tell
Nothing More to Tell was very enjoyable. There was a great balance of the character's personal lives and the mystery storyline, which made for a more compelling story. As all Karen M. McManus books, there were lots of plot twists and the trademark unexpected ending. The ending was very abrupt, but I think that it added to the story. Overall, I rate this a 4/5.
  • You'll Be the Death of Me
You’ll be the Death of Me was an interesting concept, but it felt rushed. The story takes place over one day, so it felt slightly underdeveloped. The whole story was pretty predictable, but the relationships between the characters were interesting. This was probably my least favourite Karen M. McManus book so far, so I would rate it a 2.5/5.
  • The Cousins

    The Cousins

    By McManus, Karen M.
The Cousins had some good and some bad. It had a fascinating ending, although convoluted. I did not find any of the characters very relatable, and some of their motives were questionable. The conclusion felt original, but the events leading up to that point were slightly confusing. So, I would rate this a 3/5.
  • Two Can Keep A Secret
Two Can Keep a Secret was dark and intriguing. The protagonists were very relatable and engaging. The ending was unexpected and was obviously preceded by lots of plot twists. This is one of my favourite Karen M. McManus books, and I definitely suggest picking it up. Overall, I will give this a 4.5/5.
  • One of Us Is Lying
One of Us is Lying was a captivating read. Each character has their own secrets and lives, each so different from the other. It gives the story so much more variety and keeps you guessing. The ending of the mystery was satisfying and fit very well. I found this book very original and interesting, definitely recommend! I rate this a 4.5/5. This book is also available in French.

  • One of Us Is Next
Sequel to One of Us Is Lying. One of Us is Next follows new main characters (one of them is Bronwyn’s younger sister Maeve). They are very different people, so the feel of the book was much different than One of Us is Lying. However, the idea was very captivating. I enjoyed the mystery and the friendships the characters had. There was a lot of suspense and tension added to make it interesting. I would give this a 4/5.
