Readers take flight — Take part in Canadian Children’s Book Week celebrations!

Monday, May 3, 2021

OTTAWA — Canadian's Children's Book Week cannot go unnoticed at the Ottawa Public Library (OPL). The Library always strives through its programs and events to nurture the love of reading and develop literacy practices. Each year, the Library organizes author visits to various schools in the region. This year, the visits will take place virtually from May 3 to 7, 2021, and children from across Ottawa will have the opportunity to welcome Jocelyn Boisvert, Cecil Castellucci, Michelle Barker, and Aidan Cassie.

Two of these visits are open to the public. So, those who won't have the chance to participate in the celebrations from their virtual classroom will be able to be part of the fun with:

  • Author-illustrator Aidan Cassieon Wednesday, May 5 at 10:30 am. Ages 2-4 are invited to create a picture book with the help of many tools to come up with story ideas and learn how illustrations are often part of the story.
  • Author Jocelyn Boisvert, Thursday, May 6 at 4:30 pm (in French only). Ages 7 to 11 will be able to dive into the world of his short novels and even participate in solving the mystery or contributing to the end of the story.

Places are limited, so parents, hurry and register!

Canadian Children's Book Week is organized by the Canadian Children's Book Centre and Communication-jeunesse and is celebrated across Canada to promote Canadian children's books and the importance of reading. You can also join the cause by borrowing Canadian children's books from the OPL collection.
