What is a program?
A library program is an event hosted by OPL, usually in more than one branch or location, on a particular topic. Programs are intended to inform, educate, and entertain library customers, and to promote further library use. OPL provides programming for all ages (children, teens and adults and older adults), as well as in the key subject areas of Business and Career Services, Digital Literacy, Local History and Genealogy, and Newcomer Services. The Program Development team at OPL works closely with OPL Branches, City departments, community agencies and other partners to build collaborative relationships to ensure that programming and services meet the needs of the people of Ottawa.
What is a special event?
A special event is a one-time or annual occasion happening within your neighbourhood; examples would include a summer outdoor fair, a sporting event, or a parade. OPL attends events year-round in order to provide access to OPL services and resources to residents who may face barriers to accessing these services, to promote our services and collections to residents, gather input from residents about service needs and to connect and have fun. This is in keeping with OPL’s strategic direction: “services that are customer-centric.” Our participation may include an information table, special program, and/or a visit by one of our bookmobiles.
