"Island on Fire": Workshop presented by Black History Ottawa, the Ubuntu Legacy Network and the Historical Society of Ottawa

Black History Ottawa, the Ubuntu Legacy Network and the Historical Society of Ottawa invite you to the first of a three-part book club on Tom Zoellner's "Island on Fire: The Revolt That Ended Slavery in the British Empire"

Learn how the forces of literacy and revolution brought an end to slavery in the British Empire. 

This inclusive community safe-space legacy workshop series is part of the 2023 commemoration of the 230th anniversary of the 1793 Act to Limit Slavery in Upper Canada and the 190th anniversary of the 1833 Act to Abolish Slavery in the British Empire.

The second and third sessions will take place respectively on March 25, 2023 and on April 22, 2023. They will both take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room B125 of the Main Branch of the Ottawa Public Library (120 Metcalfe Street).
