For National Indigenous History Month OPL is recommending Noopiming: The Cure for White Ladies by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson. We’re not only recommending it, we’ve arranged for OPL patrons to have unlimited simultaneous access to the eBook and eAudiobook in English and the eBook in French for the entire month of June.

This selection is challenging but it is equally rewarding. It has been described as “a poem, novel, prophecy, handbook, and side-eyed critique all at once” by Alexis Pauline Gumbs, author of Dub: Finding Ceremony and “a rare parcel of beauty and power, at once a creator and destroyer of forms” by Omar El Akkad, bestselling author of American War.

Here is a conversation with the author that allows readers to grasp this author’s writing style and what she wants to convey with this beautiful, haunting and often humourous book.

We’ve also found some discussion questions for you to use with your book club this month.  Don’t have a regular book club but still want to participate? Login with your library card and leave your comments below – we’re excited to hear your thoughts on this title that challenges the reader, challenges Canada’s colonial past and present and that was recently shortlisted for the Dublin Literary Award.
