Virtual Spring Series of Writers Fest

The virtual spring season finishes with three author visits scheduled on June 17, 18, and 20.  Join us for a three evenings with a wide variety of topics: 

The Life and Times of Robbie Burns: Dr. Pauline McKay and John Ivison 
Thursday, June 17 at 7:30 pm
John Ivison, journalist, co-founder and first Executive Director of the Scottish Society of Ottawa and author of The Riotous Passions of Robbie Burns will join Dr. Pauline Mackay, Lecturer in Robert Burns Studies at the University of Glasgow and author of Burns for Every Day of the Year. They will discuss the “passionate” side of Burns, and his international influence on Scottish culture. This event is presented by the Scottish Society of Ottawa in partnership with the Ottawa International Writers Festival and the Ottawa Public Library.

Dr. Jen Gunter: The Menopause Manifesto

Author, activist and educator Julie S. Lalonde sits down with Dr. Jen Gunter to discuss her new book, The Menopause Manifesto: Own Your Health with Facts and Feminism. Dr. Jen, the internet's most fearless advocate for women's health, brings us empowerment through knowledge by countering stubborn myths and misunderstandings about menopause with hard facts, real science, fascinating historical perspective, and expert advice.

Richard Van Camp: Gather

Stories are medicine. During a time of heightened isolation, bestselling author Richard Van Camp shares in Gather what he knows about the power of storytelling.  Join Van Camp in conversation with Karen McBride.  
In Gather, Van Camp offers some of his own favourite stories from Elders, friends, and family.  He also offers insights into basic storytelling techniques, and delves further into the impact storytelling can have, helping readers understand how to create community and how to banish loneliness through their tales. A member of the Tlicho Dene First Nation, Van Camp also includes stories from Elders whose wisdom influenced him.
