This is Empathy: Canadian Mental Health Week

Canadian Mental Health Week

May 04, 2022

The Canadian Mental Health Association’s Mental Health Week (CMHW) at the beginning of May takes on a particular significance this year.  There is not one of us who is not themselves or does not know someone going through mental health challenges.  Ottawa Public Library is kicking off a series of free online workshops to help us all cope with the stress of life lately. We have endured a lot in the last two years, here’s the chance to come together to support one another and move forward stronger, together.

The Canadian Mental Health Association’s theme this year is #Empathy, the Ottawa Public Library is providing programming and resources that shows #Empathy towards having open conversations about mental health- “this is empathy”.

OPL is offering programming for Teens, Adults and Older adults on topics such as mindfulness, stress and meditation. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with presenters and meet other library community members.

With the nice weather approaching, we also invite you to take a walk outside and explore a StoryWalk ® at one of six branches hosting this program. A chance to get out of the house and do something with the family and friends!

We encourage you to explore the booklists and information resources we have prepared and to register for a mindfulness workshop.  Call a friend or family member this week, go for a walk, reach out to someone and remember to show some #Empathy this week.
