Green finds himself in the middle of a rivalry in the delicate arena of university politics, where gigantic egos regularly collide. Was it the diligent but socially inept researcher, or the macho ladies-man golden boy of the laboratory? • Distressed Pavement

    Distressed Pavement

    To Ottawa With Love

    By Simpson, Rose
"In Distressed Pavement, Simpson takes the reader on a guided tour of the Ottawa she knows as seen through the eyes of a police officer with a heart of gold, a musician fallen on hard times, a cynical city columnist, and an ethically-challenged Canadian senator. Distressed Pavement exposes the cracks in Ottawa's carefully crafted image: the cover-up of scandals among the elite; restaurant wars that strike fear in the hearts and wallets of local businesses; and a homeless crisis that has left hundreds on its chilly streets and in shelters every year. Distressed Pavement is an engaging romp through Ottawa's history over forty years and is based on urban legends and actual events including the closing of the Ottawa Journal, which left the city with one newspaper for ten years, and changed the journalism landscape forever. It also explores important social topics including the mental health of first responders and soldiers who have borne witness to unthinkable events."--Back cover.

  • Searching for Truth
Former journalist Jake Scott relies on his weekly breakfast gatherings with friends and a temperamental tabby cat named Oliver to keep his spirits up. He has lost his wife, retired from his job and watched his daughter move to Toronto with her boyfriend. Things change when one of the breakfast attendees, a beautiful and tenacious police detective with a troubled teenage daughter, suggests Jake should write a book. When he takes her advice and researches a convicted murderer's case, he finds out something is terribly wrong. Could a member of the breakfast group be hiding a secret deadly enough to commit murder?
  • A Striking Similarity
"For Detective Terry Millar, finding a balance between his job as a top criminal profiler and his role as a single dad to a teenage daughter just got a lot tougher. Murders are rare in his hometown of Ottawa, so when the body of a young woman is found displayed in plain sight, he takes it personally. This is his town. This is his home. Millar and his long-time partner, Detective Sue Penner, are determined to find the killer, but they've only just begun their search when another victim is found, her body similarly staged, taunting the police. Before long, Millar, Penner and an ambitious beat cop, Constable Grant, are being led on the worst kind of treasure hunt around the city. Every clue that they uncover leads to more questions. The evidence is mounting, but it seems to point in an impossible direction. Even if they catch the killer, they know that nothing will ever be the same again. A Striking Similarity is the first book in The Ottawa Detective Series."

  • Un automne noir

    Un automne noir

    roman policier

    By Olsen, Florian
"L’Automne noir.

    roman

    By Meunier, Sylvain
  • Raconter Vanier

    roman

    By Poliquin, Daniel

  • Dandelion

    Dandelion

    By Liew, Jamie Chai Yun
"An Asian woman traces her mother's past journey in order to learn who she really is and where she belongs. When Lily was eleven years old, her mother, Swee Hua, walked away from the family, never to be seen or heard from again. Now, as a new mother herself, Lily becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to Swee Hua. She recalls the spring of 1987, growing up in a small British Columbia mining town where there were only a handful of Asian families; Lily's previously stateless father wanted them to blend seamlessly into Canadian life, while her mother, alienated and isolated, longed to return to Brunei. Years later, still affected by Swee Hua's disappearance, Lily's family is nonetheless stubbornly silent to her questioning. But eventually, an old family friend provides a clue that sends Lily to Southeast Asia to find out the truth. Winner of the Jim Wong-Chu Emerging Writers Award from the Asian Canadian Writers' Workshop, Dandelion is a beautifully written and affecting novel about motherhood, family secrets, migration, isolation, and mental illness. With clarity and care, it delves into the many ways we define home, identity, and above all, belonging."

At the edges of all this excitement, Élise Boucher, Bonjour Paris's cranky long-time office manager, worries about her future. Through diaries, letters and reminiscences, the romantic story of the necklace is unravelled. Commissioned by the lusty Napoléon III for his favourite mistress, the 'Honeybee Emeralds' was next owned by ill-fated First World War spy, Mata Hari.
