Canada's books on public policy are being recognized in a new Writers Trust Award.  The inaugural Balsillie Prize for Public Policy short list of 4 nominated titles are: Innovation in Real Places: Strategies for Prosperity in an Unforgiving World by Dan Breznitz, On Borrowed Time: North America's Next Big Quake by Gregor Craigie, Neglected No More: The Urgent Need to Improve the Lives of Canada's Elders in the Wake of a Pandemic by André Picard, andIndian in the Cabinet: Speaking Truth to Power by Jody Wilson-Raybould.

In supporting this new award, the businessman and philanthropist Jim Balsillie says "Public policy essentially shapes everything in our lives - either you shape it or it shapes you."

Among Balsillie's favourite books on public policy are  the classic Silent Spring by Rachel Carson, a true game-changer for the environment, and Democracy in Canada by Donald J. Savoie.

This award joins the Donner Prize in it's focus on public policy discourse - as Balsillie pronounces, you can never have enough.
